The Insanity of Curated Life

This is my RMIT graduation project. There are 3 parts to it.

1. The book

2. Scented solution sheets

3. Mirror

The book talks about the negative effects of social media while the solution sheets provide suggestions on how to deal with it. Each solution sheet has it’s own scent. As the reader reads it their brain makes a connection between the information they received and the scent subconsciously. Lastly, the mirror signify and encourage self reflection.

I have chosen to work with human sense of scent for this project as it is the most powerful sense among all. Smell is closely linked with our memory and has the ability to trigger memories that was long forgotten. Not only that, it helps the brain to make sense of things.I hope that my readers could register and create a connection with the scent so they will be reminded of how harmful social media is when they smell the scent again in future.

The book

The publication was bound by hand. The front and back cover of the book is painted white with a palette knife to create a coarse texture that represents "insanity". Also, the paint has been torn apart at the center front to create a revealing effect for the title.
